Tagum’s housing efforts impress urban poor chief

The City Government of Tagum’s effort on urban poor and housing is impressive and worth emulating.  This is what the chair of the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor Hernani Panganiban disclosed in his speech before urban poor leaders of Tagum City and some members of the Sangguniang Panglungsod during his visit in the city last April 29.  (The Mindanao Daily Mirror – May 3, 2011)

LGUs under watch on demolitions

Any problems or issues tied to the Mahiga Creek demolition as pursued by the Cebu City government were resolved after it offered a relocation site and promised financial aid to the displaced families. But the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) reiterated that local officials should conduct consultations and ensure a relocation site for settlers displaced by fire and demolitions.
